There’s no waiting for ‘Amethyst Falls’ to flower! Unlike other types, ‘Amethyst Falls’ typically blooms after its first season in the ground (often blooming within the container). This is nice for impatient gardeners who will enjoy its 4 to 6-inch long racemes of beautiful lavender-blue fragrant summerborne flowers. The compound foliage of ‘Amethyst Falls’ is also attractive. Colored mid green, it is gray blue underneath and quite attractive spring through fall.

Care

Watering:

'Amethyst Falls' American Wisteria is moderately drought tolerant but benefits from occasional watering, to maintain soil in a moist but not wet condition, during the summer months.

Fertilizing:

'Amethyst Falls' American Wisteria will flower best if fertilized only with an annual fall application of superphosphate at a rate of 1/2 pound for each inch of stem diameter of the main stem, scratched into the surrounding soil. Do not use nitrogen containing fertilizers on Wisteria.

Pruning:

'Amethyst Falls' American Wisteria sets its flower buds in fall, blooms in spring, and should be pruned (if that is desirable) back to a bud, immediately after flowering.
