A Closer Look at Our New Plant Introductions

These plants may all sound familiar, but each of these new varieties has a little something ‘extra’ when it comes to foliage-

Ajuga reptans Princess Elsa- Low growing, with shimmering rounded leaves in shades of crisp, metallic silver-green. In early spring Princess Elsa is crowned with clusters of dark violet flowers that draw bees and other pollinators.

Geranium maculatum ‘Huggy Bear’ is a native cultivar with bronzy-red dissected leaves, graced with delicate sprays of clear pink flowers in the spring.

A robust grower, Iris versicolor ‘Purple Flame’ has unique eggplant-purple foliage, the lush clumps of sword shaped foliage bloom in late spring- violet streaked flowers throated in yellow dance beckon hummingbirds and butterflies.

A new selection from Brent Horvath, Monarda bradburiana ‘Midnight Oil’ is unique for its handsome, bronzy-purple foliage, fragrant and a lovely backdrop to its specked pink, spider-like flowers.

Stachys byzantina ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy’ all the soft, silvery fuzz of ‘Big Ears,’ but in a slightly smaller leaf! This charming, low-maintenance ground cover quickly forms dense, velvety carpets that brighten any garden.

One of the newest, brightest Hakonechloa cultivars on the market- ‘Lemon Zest’ has cascading bright yellow foliage, streaked with white.

Truly one-of-a-kind, Schizachyrium scoparium ‘Ha Ha Tonka’ features a sturdy, vase-like habit, but its signature charm lies in the soft layer of fine hairs that cover nearly every inch of the plant. Luminous when backlit, ‘Ha Ha Tonka’ adds exceptional texture to any garden.

A fresh new shade for Sporobolus, ‘Golden Needles’ features the same finely textured foliage, graceful arching habit, and fragrant, wispy panicles—but now in a vibrant chartreuse yellow.

Unfortunately, we cannot keep adding without also subtracting, so it’s important to review our current product offerings for plants that may need to be dropped. Plants are typically removed for one of four reasons:

  • A new variety has outperformed an existing offering.
  • The plant material is no longer available.
  • Poor performance in the landscape.
  • Low sales.
