Allium ‘Globemaster’
Blooming Time
Exposure

Not really a ground cover, but one of the most magnificent perennials available today. During spring before much else wakes up, ‘Globemaster’ sends up imposing shiny green straplike foliage. In short order, these are followed by stout upright stems, each topped with a glossy pointed flower bud soon to become massive 10-inch diameter globose heads of lovely-lilac pink flowers. Visible from a hundred feet away, these are surefire conversation starters, and persist several weeks before fading to long-lasting silvery starbursts of spiky seed heads before the whole plant goes to sleep for the summer months.

Care
Watering:
'Globemaster' Giant Onion is very drought tolerant and typically only needs watering during the hottest days of summer.
Fertilizing:
'Globemaster' Giant Onion is a moderate feeder, benefiting from a couple of annual applications of slow release fertilizer. A spring application of a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet, and during early fall, an application of a 2-1-2 ratio (such as a 10-5-10) can be applied to encourage root development and cold hardiness.
Pruning:
'Globemaster' Giant Onion is a deciduous plant (nonevergreen) and does not require pruning. It is perfectly acceptable to allow the dropped leaves to decompose and nourish the soil.
