Sedums are ultra low maintenance, super hardy (hot and cold), drought tolerant, colorfully flowered perennial ground covers. They typically flower yellow, white, pink or red, early to late summer, and their foliage comes in an array of textures from broad to flat to needle-like. Meanwhile, blue, yellow, purple, red, multicolor, and green are all part of the rainbow of sedum foliage colors. Sedums are unique in that they look fantastic when a mixture of varieties is planted together. This creates a montage of color and textural contrasts. They are excellent in any full sun or mostly sunny garden setting, along walkways and patios, and can even be planted on a large scale as an alternative to a conventional lawn area.

Care

Watering:

Assorted Sedum is very drought tolerant and typically only needs watering during the hottest days of summer.

Fertilizing:

Assorted Sedum needs little fertilizer, but benefits from a single springtime or fall topdressing (about 1 inch deep) of organic compost or well rotted leaves. Alternatively, a springtime application of a slow release fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet.

Pruning:

Assorted Sedum is a deciduous plant (nonevergreen) and does not require pruning. It is perfectly acceptable to allow the dropped leaves to decompose and nourish the soil.
