This Lily of the Valley look alike is a great option for naturalizing shaded or wooded areas of the landscape. Claimed to be the only plant within this particular genus, it is naturally found in the hilly shaded forests of China. Its foliage is composed of shiny deep green, arching lance-shaped blades that slowly expand (like Convallaria majalis the common European lily of the valley). During spring it bears clusters of paper-white star shaped flowers. Chinese lily-of-the-valley is a good and unique small to large-scale groundcover, for shade, and can be paired with robust perennials.

A spring application of a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet, and during early fall, an application of a 2-1-2 ratio (such as a 10-5-10) can be applied to encourage root development and cold hardiness.

Pruning:

Chinese Lily-of-the-Valley is evergreen and does not require pruning. It is normally only pruned for the purpose of keeping it within bounds.
