Veronica ‘Purpleicious’
Blooming Time
Exposure

The intent of the breeding program from which `Purpleicious’ originated was to expand the palette of Veronica blooms for the cut flower industry. To our good fortune, however, it was discovered that this exceptionally-colored cultivar also exhibited good cold hardiness. The intense, purple violet blooms of `Purpleicious’ are perhaps the deepest, darkest flowers of any spiked speedwell selection. They are densely packed and long blooming, creating a stunning display of vibrant, deep purple from late spring into summer. Plant `Purpleicious’ in well drained soil and be sure to deadhead flowers as they fade to prolong its blooming. Good uses include combining with other summer bloomers in the middle of a perennial bed, as a small scale ground cover, and of course, in fresh bouquets.

Care
Watering:
`Purpleicious' Speedwell is moderately drought tolerant but benefits from occasional watering, to maintain soil in a moist but not wet condition, during the summer months.
Fertilizing:
`Purpleicious' Speedwell is a moderate feeder, benefiting from a couple of annual applications of slow release fertilizer. A spring application of a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet, and during early fall, an application of a 2-1-2 ratio (such as a 10-5-10) can be applied to encourage root development and cold hardiness.
Pruning:
`Purpleicious' Speedwell should be enjoyed all winter long, then, during early April before it begins to grow again, it should be pruned or mowed back to ground level.
