Allium tanguticum ‘Summer Beauty’
Blooming Time
Exposure

With deep dark shiny green densely set foliage, ‘Summer Beauty’ is a fantastic ground cover for foliage alone. Yet, it is also a spectacular flowering plant and provides several weeks of color during July and August when it becomes topped with 2-inch wide globose heads of clear pink flowers. Like other Alliums, ‘Summer Beauty’ is drought resistant, long lived, free of insect and disease problems, and provides a good food source for butterflies and honeybees. It is fantastic as an edging or ground cover on a small to large scale.

Care
Watering:
'Summer Beauty' Ornamental Chive is very drought tolerant and typically only needs watering during the hottest days of summer.
Fertilizing:
'Summer Beauty' Ornamental Chive is a moderate feeder, benefiting from a couple of annual applications of slow release fertilizer. A spring application of a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet, and during early fall, an application of a 2-1-2 ratio (such as a 10-5-10) can be applied to encourage root development and cold hardiness.
Pruning:
'Summer Beauty' Ornamental Chive is a deciduous plant (nonevergreen) and does not require pruning. It is perfectly acceptable to allow the dropped leaves to decompose and nourish the soil.
