This lovely native perennial is versatile enough to thrive in both typical garden conditions as well as wetland habits. This makes it great for rain garden planting, but it’s also outstanding as a robust ground cover and companion in perennial borders. Swamp milkweed is clothed in elegant, mid green, lance-leaved foliage borne in opposite fashion from sturdy stems. During July to September, it bears rose pink, vanilla-scented flowers which draw butterflies like a magnet, especially swallowtails and monarchs. Their seed heads are also an attractive food source for many songbirds.

Care
Watering:
'Cinderella' Swamp Milkweed is very drought tolerant and typically only needs watering during the hottest days of summer.
Fertilizing:
'Cinderella' Swamp Milkweed needs little fertilizer, but benefits from a single springtime or fall topdressing (about 1 inch deep) of organic compost or well rotted leaves. Alternatively, a springtime application of a slow release fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet.
Pruning:
'Cinderella' Swamp Milkweed should be enjoyed all winter long, then, during early April before it begins to grow again, it should be pruned or mowed back to ground level.
