A miniature version of rupturewort, ‘Green Carpet’ reaches only about ½-inch tall, looks light a tight little green moss, and spreads quite slowly. As might be expected, it is a fantastic Foot Friendly filler for planting between stepping stones and as an edging to garden paths. Like the species, it also works well for softening up stone and wood steps and retaining walls. It is evergreen with tiny greenish flowers, can substitute for a lawn on a small scale.

Care

Watering:

'Green Carpet' Rupturewort is moderately drought tolerant but benefits from occasional watering, to maintain soil in a moist but not wet condition, during the summer months.

Fertilizing:

'Green Carpet' Rupturewort needs little fertilizer, but benefits from a single springtime or fall topdressing (about 1 inch deep) of organic compost or well rotted leaves. Alternatively, a springtime application of a slow release fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet.

Pruning:

'Green Carpet' Rupturewort is evergreen and does not require pruning. It is normally only pruned for the purpose of keeping it within bounds.
