So tough you’d swear it’s plastic, `Gold Carpet’ is an intensely blackish green, metallic-green-edged semi evergreen sedum. It is new, unique, and appears to resist extreme heat and drought. But, it’s also beautiful, and in addition to forming upright clumps to 12 inches wide, is adorned with clusters of bright yellow flowers during mid summer. From Korea, `Gold Carpet’ sedum is fine by itself, especially as a moderate scale ground cover or edging. It also works well in mixed plantings with companions.

Care

Watering:

'Gold Carpet' Sedum is very drought tolerant and typically only needs watering during the hottest days of summer.

Fertilizing:

'Gold Carpet' Sedum needs little fertilizer, but benefits from a single springtime or fall topdressing (about 1 inch deep) of organic compost or well rotted leaves. Alternatively, a springtime application of a slow release fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet.

Pruning:

'Gold Carpet' Sedum should be enjoyed all winter long, then, during early April before it begins to grow again, it should be pruned or mowed back to ground level.
