(Image courtesy of Concept Plants) An abundant rebloomer, ‘Sensational!’ is known for 4-inch long, purple flower spikes that are carried upon unusually long stems. It has distinct foliage as well- very tightly arranged and very silvery. Both foliage and flowers are good in potpourri and the flowers are nice in fresh or dried arrangements. Sometimes overlooked, astute gardeners also know that lavender flowers draw in pollinators, and the foliage is unpalatable to deer and rabbits. ‘Sensational!’ makes a nice edging plant for along sidewalks and for the front of the border, and is excellent in mixed plantings.

Landscape Value

A nice edging plant for along sidewalks and for the front of the border, and is excellent in mixed plantings.

Care

Watering:

'Sensational!' Lavender is moderately drought tolerant but benefits from occasional watering, to maintain soil in a moist but not wet condition, during the summer months.

Fertilizing:

'Sensational!' Lavender is a moderate feeder, benefiting from a couple of annual applications of slow release fertilizer. A spring application of a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet, and during early fall, an application of a 2-1-2 ratio (such as a 10-5-10) can be applied to encourage root development and cold hardiness.

Pruning:

'Sensational!' Lavender sets its flower buds in summer, and any pruning should be conducted in April, immediately after winter.
