(Image Courtesy of Walters Gardens) `Violet Cascade’ is a true specimen, a full-size butterfly bush that reaches 4½-feet tall and bears gargantuan pendant clusters of bright purple flowers that encase the entire plant from mid-summer well into fall. Like its parent `Grand Cascade’, `Violet Cascade’ attracts an endless parade of butterflies with tis tubular, nectar rich flowers. And, needless to say, it can function as a fabulous specimen in the garden. But it can also serve as a fabulous backdrop to perennials.

Care

Watering:

`Violet Cascade' Butterfly Bush is very drought tolerant and typically only needs watering during the hottest days of summer.

Fertilizing:

`Violet Cascade' Butterfly Bush is a moderate feeder, benefiting from a couple of annual applications of slow release fertilizer. A spring application of a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet, and during early fall, an application of a 2-1-2 ratio (such as a 10-5-10) can be applied to encourage root development and cold hardiness.

Pruning:

`Violet Cascade' Butterfly Bush should be pruned while dormant during late fall or winter.
