This time-proven peony has been a favorite for more than 100 years. Its large, fancy blooms are made of the purest glistening white and have centers flecked with hints of carmine. The fully double flowers are 5 to 6-inches across, sweetly scented, and are among the longest lasting cut flowers. The broad, deep green clumping foliage of ‘Festiva Maxima’ makes an effective short hedge, general ground cover or border when planted enmasse. Peonies are extremely long lived once established and prefer full sun and rich soils.

Care

Watering:

'Festiva Maxima' Garden Peony is moderately drought tolerant but benefits from occasional watering, to maintain soil in a moist but not wet condition, during the summer months.

Fertilizing:

'Festiva Maxima' Garden Peony needs little fertilizer, but benefits from a single springtime or fall topdressing (about 1 inch deep) of organic compost or well rotted leaves. Alternatively, a springtime application of a slow release fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet.

Pruning:

'Festiva Maxima' Garden Peony should be pruned while dormant during late fall or winter.
