Heuchera x ‘Palace Purple’
Blooming Time
Exposure

Although there has been much dispute over the classification of this cultivar, everyone agrees that it is among the finest of the purple colored plants. When the category is narrowed to purple leaved ground covers, it shines even more brightly. Introduced from Europe by Alan Bush of North Carolina, the intensity of the purple of its rugged maple-like leaves must be seen to be believed. It is outstanding when used as a backdrop for low growing hostas and combines well with many non-invasive shade loving perennials. Flowers are tiny wisps of yellowish white that arise above the foliage during spring. 1991 Perennial Plant of the Year.

Care
Watering:
'Palace Purple' Coral Bells is moderately drought tolerant but benefits from occasional watering, to maintain soil in a moist but not wet condition, during the summer months.
Fertilizing:
'Palace Purple' Coral Bells is a moderate feeder, benefiting from a couple of annual applications of slow release fertilizer. A spring application of a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet, and during early fall, an application of a 2-1-2 ratio (such as a 10-5-10) can be applied to encourage root development and cold hardiness.
Pruning:
'Palace Purple' Coral Bells is a deciduous plant (nonevergreen) and does not require pruning. It is perfectly acceptable to allow the dropped leaves to decompose and nourish the soil.
