(Image Courtesy of Walters Gardens) `Honey Roasted’ wakes up quickly during spring with robust upright shoots and gray-green foliage arranged in a 4-foot wide clump. It looks more like a mid-sized shrub than a typical perennial and shortly after the stems have fully elongated and leaves unfolded, `Honey Roasted’ bursts forth with numerous, mahogany and yellow-colored flowers, which eventually mature to all yellow. The flowers are quite distinct and are complementary to a host of companions.

Care
Watering:
`Honey Roasted' False Indigo is very drought tolerant and typically only needs watering during the hottest days of summer.
Fertilizing:
`Honey Roasted' False Indigo needs little fertilizer, but benefits from a single springtime or fall topdressing (about 1 inch deep) of organic compost or well rotted leaves. Alternatively, a springtime application of a slow release fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio (such as a 15-5-10) can be applied at a rate of about 10 pounds per 1000 square feet.
Pruning:
`Honey Roasted' False Indigo sets its flower buds in summer, and any pruning should be conducted in April, immediately after winter.
